There are some great businesses in Westchase. My first visit to Burger 21 was in Westchase when they were starting out. Catch Twenty Three invited me to visit for their sushi happy hour a few weeks ago. A Zagat-Rated restaurant, Catch Twenty Three has certainly enjoyed a good amount of buzz written about their business and is well known for their seafood. Their sushi happy hour is every Tuesday from 4:30PM to close. During their happy hour sashimi is $1.25, rolls $2.99, and nigiri $1.25.
Tampa has a large number of restaurants that now engage in happy hour sushi specials from Ocean Blue Sushi to Sushi Alive. The quality and portions vary, but if you’re hungry for sushi there is likely somewhere in range that offers a deal on sushi. We sampled a few rolls – The California Roll, Tampa Roll, Tilapia Roll, eel nigiri…to name a few. All rolls were pretty standard, portions were pretty small – however, many restaurants do this to try and recover their losses during a happy hour. The same goes for the nigiri.
The only roll I really fell in love with was the Tilapia Roll which tasted very fresh and is probably a credit to their in-house seafood. I would be more interested in having their seafood in another visit. The sushi deal is not bad for things like sashimi and nigiri, but I think the rolls are bit too small for $2.99. I would rather pay the extra $1.50 or $2 and get a proper portion.
We did have dessert and I will say that the chocolate cake is absolutely great at Catch Twenty Three.
If you live in Westchase or the Citrus Park area, Catch Twenty Three should be on your radar if you’re looking for a place to have some happy hour sushi or fresh seafood. However, if you’re in Eastern parts of Tampa such as Carrollwood or USF-area it would probably be better and more economical to look into other closer restaurants sushi happy hours.
