Being that today is National Fried Chicken Day (didn’t you see it trend on Twitter?), I decided it was the perfect day to head to Tampa Luv Chicken and try their chicken and waffles. I have some friends who check-in to Tampa Luv Chicken regularly and sparked my interest. Chicken and waffles have been buzzing in the food community for some time, but today was my first encounter with the dish. According to Foodimentary, there are more than 25 billion chickens in the world and they outnumber any other bird species.
Everything at Tampa Luv Chicken is made-to-order, therefore expect to wait 15-30 minutes for your order. You can place your order over the phone before you visit by dialing (813) 935-9900. They are open until 5 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, which is great because they have a drive-thru for your late-night cravings.
What is a southern, soul food restaurant without some hot sauce choices?
I ordered three fried chicken tenders and waffles with 2 sodas and the total was less than $8. Definitely a steal. The order took less than 10 minutes, probably because we came around 6:30 p.m. for an early dinner. The woman at the register was very friendly, polite, and took care of us well during our visit.
The chicken was great and the waffle was tasty as well. It was an odd combination at first thought, but my taste buds agreed with the mixture. I added some syrup over the waffle and it was a match made in heaven. The chicken was great quality and I honestly think that at these prices, Popeyes and Kentucky Fried Chicken better watch out because they have a serious competitor here. The chicken was not overly greasy and probably had something to do with the peanut oil they fry their food in.
Their ice cream waffles, grits, and other dishes also caught my eye and will be tried on a future visit. There is much to love about Tampa Luv Chicken & Waffles and I will definitely return back in the future. I am glad I gave it a shot and you should too!
